Introductie
De VVSG organiseert op dinsdag 8 juli 2025 in samenwerking met interTwin en steun van VLAIO een workshop over het gebruik van Digital Twins om klimaatuitdagingen beter te begrijpen en gericht aan te pakken. Deze workshop richt zich op beleidsmakers en kmo’s uit Vlaamse steden en gemeenten. Je ontdekt er hoe je zelf een Digital Twin bouwt rond twee actuele thema’s: overstroming en droogte.
Wat is een Digital Twin?
Een Digital Twin is een virtueel model van een fysiek systeem, bijvoorbeeld je riool, waterlopen of bodem. Het combineert data, voert simulaties uit en voorspelt risico’s. Zo neem je doordachte, preventieve beslissingen en werk je efficiënter aan lokaal klimaatbeleid.
Waarom zijn Digital Twins relevant voor klimaatbeleid?
Klimaatverandering stelt ons voor grote uitdagingen: lange periodes van droogte, plotse overstromingen of hittegolven. Met een Digital Twin modelleer je deze situaties en test je oplossingen uit voor je ze uitvoert. Zo werk je efficiënter, duurzamer en veerkrachtiger.
Deze workshop helpt je om de eerste stappen te zetten. Of je nu start vanuit een lokaal probleem of een bredere beleidsvisie: je vertrekt met inzichten én praktische handvaten.
Wat leer je tijdens deze workshop?
- Wat een Digital Twin is en hoe je er zelf één bouwt
- Hoe andere steden en regio’s Digital Twins inzetten tegen klimaatproblemen
- Hoe je met interTwin en FloodAdapt praktisch aan de slag gaat
- Hoe je samen een concreet klimaatvraagstuk in jouw gemeente aanpakt
Breng gerust een eigen case mee, denk aan een lokaal probleem rond overstroming, droogte of zelfs bosbranden. Zo haal je het meeste uit deze dag.

13:30 – 16:30: Praktijkworkshop en samenwerking rond concrete cases
16:30 – 17:00: Reflectie en vervolgstappen
Doelgroep
Deze studiedag richt zich naar beleidsmedewerkers en medewerkers van de diensten klimaat/energie/duurzaamheid en omgeving, die de technische know-how nog missen om te werken met een Digital Twin. Daarnaast verwelkomen we ook Vlaamse kmo's die bezig zijn met het thema.

Deze workshop wordt georganiseerd met steun van VLAIO en van het Europees gefundeerde project interTwin, dat gratis open-source modules aanbiedt om zelf een Digital Twin op te bouwen. Ook het platform FloodAdapt, ontwikkeld door partner Deltares, komt aan bod.

Introduction
On Tuesday 8 July 2025, VVSG is organising a workshop in collaboration with interTwin and with support from VLAIO on using Digital Twins to better understand and tackle climate challenges.
This workshop is aimed at policymakers and SMEs from Flemish cities and municipalities. You'll learn how to build your own Digital Twin around two pressing issues: flooding and drought.
What is a Digital Twin?
A Digital Twin is a virtual model of a physical system—your sewer network, waterways or soil, for example. It brings together data, runs simulations and predicts risks. This helps you make informed, preventive decisions and work more efficiently on your local climate policies.
Why are Digital Twins relevant for climate policy?
Climate change brings major challenges: extended periods of drought, sudden floods, or heatwaves. A Digital Twin allows you to model these situations and test solutions before implementing them. This helps you work more efficiently, sustainably and resiliently.
This workshop helps you take the first steps—whether you're starting from a local issue or a broader policy vision. You’ll leave with fresh insights and practical tools.

Target audience
This study day is intended for policy officers and staff working in the areas of climate, energy, sustainability or environment, who are not yet familiar with the technical side of Digital Twins. Flemish SMEs working on related topics are also very welcome.
